PREFACE.
It is a
matter of great pleasure for me to comply
with the
request to write a preface to this highly interest-
ing,
instructive and practical little book.
The
three greatest problems of the word in the order of
their
importance are : Peace, Preventive-medicine and
Race-hygiene. And birth control is the most useful
triumph
of Preventive-medicine, full of tremendous signi-
ficance
and immense promise. It is the truest form or
charity,
the highest kind of morality, and, above all. the
most
practical social reform.
Abject
poverty of the submerged tenth. particularly
in
a terribly over-populated country like England, is the
greatest
single malady and birth control the greatest single
remedy
thereof. Its dire necessity for the poor. the
unhealthy and the incorrigible is simply unquestionable.
This
little book presents in a popular language the
chief
reasons for and methods of birth control. I strongly
commend
it to those for whom it is meant. I confidently
trust it
will enlighten the ignorant, hearten the hesitating.
and, let
us hope, bring fresh converts to the ever-widening
fold of
the noblest movement for the uplift of humanity.
